Glass

AT006: Amy Thai, Undercurrent I, Glass Series, 2024

Rendered here in transparent glass, this sculpture revisits Thai’s earliest marble works, one of which now belongs to Fondazione Barovier&Toso. The work comprises multiple elements that can slightly move in relation to one another. The crystal-clear material captures light and shadow differently from every angle, its transparency allowing the viewer to see through and into the form simultaneously. The sculpture maintains the organic, flowing quality of the marble works while demonstrating glass’s unique capacity to hold light within its mass.

AT007–009: Amy Thai, Undercurrent VII-IX, Glass Series, 2024

The large glass sculptures push the technical limits of the medium. Each piece consists of multiple floral elements joined while the glass is still hot – a demanding process requiring speed and precision from the master glassmakers. The pieces range in surface and colour: from transparent crystal, sandblasted matt and clear glass with internal iridescence that creates layered depths to warm amber. Each sculpture captures and transforms light differently, the solid glass creating paradoxical effects of weight and luminosity, opacity and transparency.
